Every day, people who wish to inform themselves well before visiting
the City of Verba address numerous questions to Lady Mayor’s office.
Please find the andwers to some of the most common questions below.
1.
What level should I enroll in?
During the course registration periods (September and February)
the Verba citizens offer all potential students quality advice regarding
course and/or language selection, substantiated with a test. The
test comprises a written and oral part and will take you about an
hour to complete.
After discussing the results, the teachers will advise you what
course and level would be best for you to attend. To be tested,
call + 25 10 088 or contact us on-line to arrange an appointment
in advance.

2. I studied English for 4 years in secondary school. My matura
results in English were good as well, but as a student I’ve completely
neglected the language (well, except when going on holiday). I would
like to improve my knowledge, especially of spoken English, because
I believe my grammar is fairly OK. What’s your advice?
You should definitely take a placement test prior to attending
any course. If the test places you on level 6 of general English,
our advice would be for you to attend Conversation 1. If you score
at least 90% on the test, then Conversation 2 is the course for
you.
Conversation courses are intended to serve as training in different
communication skills: asserting oneself, inquring after other people’s
opinions, asking for information, objects, people, expressing one’s
own convictions.

3.
I would like to obtain an internationally recognised language certificate.
How do I get it?
Within the framework of its 64-hour general language courses, Verba
offers preparation courses leding to international certificates
in English, German, Spanish, Italian and French. Taking a placement
test is a must before enrolling in a higher-level language course.
You will be advised about the level of the course and the international
exam suitable to your language knowledge after taking the written
and oral placement test.

4.
I have to sit fot the matura examinations
at the end of this academic year and I wish to upgrade my school
English lessons with a suitable course. Do you have any courses
for me and what are they like?
Verba organises Matura preparation courses in English and German
in both semesters, and, if there is interest, for other languages
you can take as part of the Matura examination in foreign languages.
The course is 40 hours long and takes place once a week in modules
of 3x45 minutes in small groups. The course is organised in a group
of maximum 8 students and the matter taught is adjusted to the exam
catalogue. |

5.
I am moving to live and work abroad in two months and I wish to
at least get acquaintend with the language of the country I am moving
to. I am an absolute beginner. Since I am really busy making arrangements
for my departure and the semester has already begun, is there any
chance for me whatsoever to learn the language I want?
Certainly. Verba offers one on one tutorials, the commencement
of which is not in any way related with the beginning of semesters.
The greatest advantage of this type of courses is, that it is entirely
adapted to your needs and the time at your disposal.
This means you can come to Verba in the morning, afternoon or in
the evening, once or five times a week, as you wish.

6. We work together and we haven’t studied languages for a long
time. Now, we would like to brush up on our knowledge. We are primarily
interested in business language courses. We would really like to
attend a course, but the time we can devote to attending a course
is sparse. What should we do?
Our advice to you would be pair tutorials, because the schedule
and the subject matter would be tailored to you, your time and needs.
The commencement of the course is not in any way related with the
beginning of semesters, and the programme can be made to combine
business terminology with revising the extant language knowledge.
The only condition for this tyoe of course is a similar level of
language knowledge. The greatest advantage of this type of courses
is, that it is entirely adapted to your needs and the time at your
disposal. This means you can come to Verba in the morning, afternoon
or in the evening, once or five times a week, as you wish.

 |
8.
Where are your courses organised?
All courses take place at 10 Cankarjeva in one of our 21 pleasant

 |
9.
Who teaches these courses?
Trained
Slovene teachers teach most courses at Verba, but it has always
been our standard practice to include native speakers into the language
learning process according to need. This inclusion of native speakers
ensures lively lessons where the students can practise relaxed conversation
and acquire extra new vocabulary. Verba pays particular attention
to teacher selection to ensure a high level of expertise and an
excellent knowledge of their mother tongue and the language they
teach, since this has proven to be the only way to Verba’s objective:
intelligible and professional teaching. |

the course matter (special terminology) and intensivity as well
