General courses account for the majority of courses taught by the
citizens of Verba. Small groups of students ensure great intensivity
with maximum results. Organised in the afternoon and evening hours,
the courses take place twice a week in two 45-minute academic hours.
They are 64 hours long, which translates to 32 visits to the City
of Verba at 10 Cankarjeva. The courses range from levels 1 to 8
to cater for the needs of absolute beginners to those of people
with intermediate language knowledge to those with advanced knowledge
of a foreign language.

Student placement is carried out in accordance with placement-test
results. Placement tests are carried out during the registration
periods with the citizens of Verba as invigilators. The test comprises
a written and oral part and is absolutely free of charge and obligation
for the candidate. General courses are organised twice a year -
in the autumn and the spring semester, lasting from October to February
and February to June. The courses are aimed at developing all language
skills: speaking, listening comprehension, reading, writing, with
some emphasis on grammar structures. The main emphasis, however,
is put on speaking.
At the end of each semester the students sit a written and oral
test. Successful students are awarded Verba certificates.
